Vocabulary Learning Mobile Game
Expo game-like vocabulary app with haptics, progress loops, analytics, and store builds — designed for daily retention.
Outcomes
UX
Game-like practice
Short sessions designed for daily return.
Learning signal
Instrumented
Retention decisions can follow data.
Ship speed
Expo/EAS
Consumer iteration without native drag.
Context
Retention is the product metric; engineering should make daily opens delightful and cheap to ship.
Challenge
Language learning only works with habit loops. The product needed playful interaction, fast feedback, and lightweight delivery on iOS/Android without a heavy native rewrite.
Approach
We built an Expo Router React Native experience with haptics, animations, local persistence, Firebase analytics, and EAS packaging. Content loops emphasize short sessions and satisfying progress feedback.
Architecture
Expo Router app, React Native UI, AsyncStorage persistence, Firebase analytics, EAS builds.
Scope
- Gameplay loops
- Progress persistence
- Analytics
- Store packaging
Constraints
- Attention-span UX
- Content refresh without app store delays where possible
- SDK upgrade discipline
Solution highlights
- Haptics and motion as learning feedback
- Expo speed for consumer iteration
- Analytics from day one
Technologies
Results
- Playful mobile learning loops with haptic feedback
- Analytics hooks for retention learning
- Store-ready build profiles
- Lightweight architecture suitable for frequent iteration
Lessons learned
- Edtech consumer apps win on habit design.
- Ship instrumentation before the tenth game mode.
- Keep the stack boring so content can be interesting.
