Digital Restaurant Menu Platform
Menu manager API, admin frontend, and embeddable widget for digital menus — content, media, and venue publishing for restaurants.
Outcomes
Publish model
API + widget
Menus update without website rebuilds.
Ops
Central admin
Multi-venue teams edit in one place.
Channel
Embeddable
Works with existing hospitality sites.
Context
Restaurant digital presence is mostly menu freshness — the CMS should match kitchen reality.
Challenge
Venues needed to update menus faster than print cycles allow, publish consistently across locations, and embed menus on existing sites without rebuilding each website.
Approach
We built an Express/TypeScript Menu Manager API on MongoDB with auth, media upload, and publishing workflows, plus an Angular admin frontend and an embeddable widget for customer-facing menus.
Architecture
Express + TypeScript API, MongoDB, Angular admin, embeddable menu widget, file upload and cron-assisted jobs.
Scope
- Menu CRUD
- Media
- Publishing
- Embeddable widget
- Admin UX
Constraints
- Non-technical venue staff
- Must embed into heterogeneous websites
- Uptime during service hours
Solution highlights
- Widget boundary keeps venue sites independent
- API-first menu model reusable across channels
- Admin UX oriented to daily menu edits
Technologies
Results
- Central menu management for venues
- Embeddable widget for existing restaurant websites
- Media-capable catalog updates without redeploying sites
- Role-aware API for operators
Lessons learned
- Hospitality software wins on edit speed, not feature count.
- Embeds need versioning like APIs.
- Assume staff will change menus on a phone between services.
